What is recorded
The hosting provider supplies an approximate city, country, latitude, and longitude. Coordinates are rounded to about a tenth of a degree before storage. The map keeps a daily keyed hash of a random browser identifier, the approximate location, and the first and latest activity times for a 30-day history. Expired records are removed hourly.
The portfolio’s visitor database does not store raw IP addresses, GPS coordinates, names, or browsing histories. A daily keyed hash of the network address is used briefly to limit repeated requests. The hosting provider processes connection information as part of delivering the site.
The public map receives grouped city counts and rounded coordinates. Individual identifiers, network hashes, and visit timestamps are not returned to the browser.
What the counts mean
A visit is counted once per browser per UTC day. Reloading, opening another tab, or reopening the browser that day does not add another visit. Different browsers, devices, private sessions, or clearing site data can count separately. People in the same city or on the same network are counted separately. “Here now” means a browser checked in during the last five minutes; it is an estimate, not an exact count of people.
Location comes from the network. VPNs, mobile networks, and unavailable location data can make it inaccurate or incomplete. Visits without usable location data are counted but have no marker. Bright green markers show cities with active visitors and pulse gently. Navy blue markers show cities with only past visitors. A city with both uses green; its label shows the active count alongside total visits. The dark red marker is my home base in Chattogram and is not a visitor. Pulsing is disabled when your device requests reduced motion.
The map shows the most recent 30 days. The total-visits counter keeps the cumulative count since launch after individual records expire. That retained total is a single number with no visitor details. Counts start when tracking is deployed; there is no invented visitor history. Before the browser-storage update on 22 September 2026, each tab session counted separately; those historical counts are retained.
Your choice
The map respects the browser’s Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals by displaying existing counts without recording your visit. A random browser identifier is kept in local storage so repeat visits and tabs can be recognized. It remains until you clear this site’s data. If that storage is unavailable, the map displays existing counts without recording a visit. No analytics cookies are set.
